The World According To Garp
A WWII nurse (Glenn Close) attains status as a pioneer of the feminist movement after conceiving a son with a dying pilot. Robin Williams plays son Garp, overshadowed by his mother's fame while juggling the roles of husband, father, and novelist.
This serious turn for Robin arrived on the coattails of his show Mork and Mindy. Some might be put off by how toned down he is compared to more popular films, but don't make this mistake. Garp is Robin at his most versatile and genuine. It's my favorite role of his career.
Co-star John Lithgow is also incredible as a transgender ex-Philadelphia Eagle who befriends Garp and his family.
If you like this, I recommend the book. It's just as brilliant.
