Sex Education
So I just finished this show with Gillian Anderson as a sex therapist and was pleased on all accounts. If I was to marry a couple ideas together, I would say Sex Education is a lovechild of Heathers, most of the 80s John Hughes films, and a sprinkling of the show Skins. Sex Education takes place in the English country, a town where all cars and clothing don’t surpass Margaret Thatcher-era UK, cell phones being one of the only indicators of this taking place in the now.
Gillian’s sex therapy practice has had an adverse effect on her teenage son Otis, who tries to keep her a secret. Yet would it not be the best idea to invite the school bully over for a school project in their home—which happens to have sex decor all over?
Quickly word gets around that Otis’s ‘mum’ helps people get in the mood, get it up, etc. But what transpires is the acquisition of Otis’s own sex therapy clientele when it seems like his entire high school starts coming to him with their own intimacy problems.
Sex Education is by all accounts a hilarious show; the sex scenes and sexual elements are guaranteed to be over the top, yet many are relatable as well. I would suggest planning ahead in terms of who you watch this show with, as the beginning of every episode is usually a graphic sexual encounter.
