You don't want to like the three lowlifes breaking and entering in the middle of derelict Michigan. Especially when they decide to let themselves in to the home of a blind retired vet.
Yet not even sleeping gas can ward off the acute senses cluing the old man in on these unwanted guests. He happens to know his way around the house much better than they do, and manages to get them into pretty sticky spots before long. When they're not dodging flying bullets, there are padlocks to open on every door, not to mention a surprise waiting in the basement.
Our heroine finds herself crawling through an air shaft only to discover that the owner's vicious dog can fit in there too. Horrifying, but it's the car scene towards the end--a brief Cujo scenario--that made me squirm. Just when you think they'll get out there's something pulling them right back into hell.
It's all about the plight of the old vet, and the sick redemption he seeks out. If Don't Breathe can't shock you, its manhunt in that boarded up dark should definitely make you uncomfortable.
