In secondary chapter "The Weirdo on Maple Street," Mike, Dustin and Lucas become acquainted with the mystery girl they find in the woods, who identifies herself as Eleven. They bring her back to Mike's basement, who prepares for her a clandestine home of blankets and pillows.
Eleven becomes familiar with La-Z Boys, commercials, and Eggo waffles while Hopper further investigates the disappearance of Will. He humors Joyce, insistent that her son spoke to her through the phone. She is given further confirmation that her son is within reach when her home appears to have become possessed.
Steve and Nancy take another step forward in their relationship, to the chagrin of prude girlfriend Barb. The girls attend a get-together at Steve's home, ignorant to the ominous presence looming by the pool, as well as Will's picture-taking older brother Jonathan.
Back at Mike's basement, Eleven reveals secrets about Will's disappearance to the boys while utilizing Dungeons and Dragons game pieces.
Now with the plot underway, the Duffer Brothers continue to distribute doses of popular culture, providing Stranger Things with more satisfying period flavor. Memorex mix tapes. Coke ads. Reagan press conferences. Make-out sessions brought to you by Foreigner. A bulk of soundtrack listings is also featured here, most favorably The Clash's "Should I Stay or Should I Go" and Trooper's "Raise a Little Hell."
If you haven't succumbed to the charms of Stranger Things by the end of this segment, there isn't much I can do for you.
