Holy Sh*t - Notes on 2020, Vol. 9
What I want: a set of objective civic guidelines to determine whether we should be happy with the current administration and related law-making bodies governing our country, or if we should be upset. Like a checklist of some sort, to determine whether we’re a “healthy” country to live in, if we’re liable to succumb to widespread martial law, if we’re on the brink of an economic catastrophe, if we’re veering toward fascism, etc. In other words, is there an opinion-free way to ascertain whether the Cheeto is the egomaniacal psychopath I believe him to be, or is he actually behaving presidentially, and I just can’t see it from over here.
Coming from me, all of that probably sounds odd. This forum is far from objective or opinion-free. Anything but. I think there are times when I get upset because we still have some good people on the other side, who really support this man. Yes, we do. I know them. Don’t get mad at me. There are some good people stuck on that side of history right now, who still haven’t taken the time to get properly informed or exposed to the social framework that makes up 2020 America.
Shit is a mess out there.
Here’s some shit for people who may not know. I found out the other day that police officers and unidentified military groups are seizing protesters in Portland, Oregon. Some are let go later, but some have actually gone missing. What I say to that is—what the fuck? Why is this being allowed and what the hell do I tell my little brother who lives out there? Luckily he is an informed, enlightened guy who knows what’s right, but I fear for him a little.
Maybe this is just a temporary scare tactic, and we shouldn’t think about it so much. But damn if it doesn’t make you a little short of breath when someone in your family could be subject to that type of off-the-grid handling. It sure doesn’t seem right to me. This is probably the most ‘holy shit’-oriented I’ve felt since I first decided to open up to everyone about how I felt. You could hardly blame me.
