Holy Sh*t - New Year Edition

Holy Sh*t - New Year Edition

As I sit here drinking a homemade orange margarita, I have to reflect on the unmistakable fact that I have had it very good this year. Like many of you reading this, I’m sure, 2020 has forced me to reflect on how things could always be worse. Much worse. As shitty as 2020 has been, we are unified in the resignation to make do, and reach for the positives in an otherwise disappointing year.

We were all taken for a ride last March, and experienced a global crisis unlike anything my generation has seen before and it is surely going to leave an indelible mark for several years ahead. Several lost jobs, homes, apartments, or simply, just, their way. We’ve even lost people we cared about; I most certainly have.

2020 was a year of sacrifice, loss, and adversity on several fronts. Politically, this country has never been more at odds. Not a single living standard can be viewed as bipartisan, with everyone looking at the pandemic so differently. I know I’ve stuck my neck out to gripe about US politics on this blog for months now, something I never even dreamed of doing before. Just out of sheer embarrassment for myself. But I have to say—I’m glad I changed my mind on this. The digital airing out of the political bullshit generally makes me feel good. Sometimes, though, it can intensify my dissatisfaction with 2020. For anyone whose been keeping up with these ‘Holy Shit’ notes, let’s face it: I’ve been in the habit of blaming various individuals for the hell our country has been through this year.

And with the advent of the new year, I have painted over these innate feelings of resentment and distrust and have resolved to give society a second chance. 2020 gave me an idea of how many people I could hate in a given year. Never have I hated people more than I did last year.

And hopefully, 2021 can help me lighten up a bit; after the last nine months, I could fucking use a lot of lightening up.

With that said, follow me on the journey to enlightenment; may we find things in 2021 we never thought possible, with people we could never be without.

By the way—is there anyone who doesn’t want to take the vaccine? I mentioned earlier in this thing that there isn’t one lifestyle choice that can be considered bipartisan. But is there anyone who is against getting vaccinated? Hopefully the vast majority of us can align on this. We need this vaccine; is it not what we’ve been working toward since the initial outbreak early last year?

In any case, Happy January. Happy New Year. Happy Birthday to my Capricorn readers.

Have a great week. I pledge to start contributing more.

And yes, there is still a novel I plan to post on here from time to time.

Live. Laugh. Love. Wash. Sanitize.
