Holy Sh*t - Inauguration Edition

While I don’t feel his presidential services would’ve proven conducive to most eras of American history, the timing of Trump’s presidency late in the previous decade and into the current was particularly off.  In a time where our resolve to reform, married with a reinvigoration applied to social reforms and awarenesses, and just a general impulse to give more of a fuck, Donald Trump was the ketchup in a tunafish sandwich.

There’s considerable growth to be undergone in the United States. Whether you agree with me or not, the Trump presidency stunted several opportunities for this growth, and brought a dirge of insensitive, seditious voices to the forefront to contest it. So you see, the Cheeto administration was an egregious betrayal of the standards and codes of conduct most of us here seek to implement. And he did an admirable job trying to silence us.

While we must put forth efforts in maintaining the democratic values that have characterized us for generations, the United States must also seek to transcend some of the antiquated founding-father chestnuts and beatitudes of the eighteenth century. Each and every one of us stands on two feet equally, and I will always believe that. We’re all a special little piece of America. We’re all living and breathing facets of the American history mosaic our grandchildren will read about in social studies textbooks.

Yes, one day the Capitol Hill infiltration of January sixth will be mentioned in school texts, will be discussed, will be argued over. The Trump presidency, and all the incidents and atrocities that occurred therein, will be done the same. Educators, theologians, and historians will all have to decide whether they want to be on the side of progress—or not. We’re living in a crucial time in the life of the United States. For so many years, I looked back toward our history, toward all the previous incidents, riots, debacles, and troubles our country experienced; I preoccupied myself with other presidents, other eras, other movements. I never looked in the moment. For such a long time I never felt I was part of any profound milestone in the life of the United States. But now that I’m actually living life with both of my eyes open, I know this isn’t true.

Some huge, pivotal things are happening, and we’re going to be alright.

Happy Inauguration Day.
